Feb 9, 2021 Norman, Oklahoma - SPEEDHORSE Magazine, a 53-year news publication covering the American Quarter Horse racing and breeding industry, is accepting resumes for an immediate full time Production Manager/Creative Director position. Our present Production Manager has been with SPEEDHORSE for 22 years. We are looking for a professional who is seeking a permanent career. Salary is negotiable. Speedhorse is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Production Manager/Creative Director for a fast-paced deadline-oriented publication company. Speedhorse Magazine is a multifaceted publication company with several publications in the Quarter Horse racing industry. Must be a team player with the ability to manage multiple projects under strict deadlines.

Responsibilities include:
• Traffic Coordinator & Project Management
Manage a detailed production schedule to ensure multiple publication deadlines are met on a monthly basis
Supervise daily workflow, assign project workload and monitor deadlines and budgets while prioritizing competing demands with a keen eye for detail
Set goals, support team members, monitor overall progress while managing changes to any given project

• Production Management
Communication with multiple printers assuring each publication is scheduled appropriately
Ensure mail deadlines and destinations are met accordingly with events happening in the industry
Work with plant operations to ensure efficiencies and correct pagination
Check that all files are set up correctly in house, fill out proper paperwork and send files to the printer
Keep close communication with the Editor and content going into each publication
Stay updated on pricing in the industry, paper hikes, postage costs, making sure we are getting the best price for printing
Provide quotes on specialized projects requested by clients/sales reps
Understanding of saddle stitch and perfect bind print production and pagination
Expert knowledge of print requirements as well as digital and website guidelines

• Creative Director & Designer
Expert level of graphic design and creative thinking skills
Proof ads for content, proper design flow and branding
Direct and motivate team to help use their skills effectively
Read all edit/ad copy to ensure an understanding of content and the industry as a whole
Proof all editorial layouts for fluidity and design to help properly illustrate the story
Knowledge of graphic design mechanics and keeping a cutting edge on design fads and software programs
Expert understanding of differences between print and digital design requirements
Assist clients in resolving issues by responding to questions in a timely and professional manner when needed
Ability to respectfully brainstorm ideas and receive/provide constructive feedback from team members

• Website Management
Must have working knowledge of CMS software programs (preferably Javelin)
Ability to troubleshoot website and communicate with Web Developers when needed
Overseeing that the website is maintained and updated

Requirements:
A degree in graphic design and minimum 5 years of graphic design experience particularly with an emphasis in print
Experience in magazine production management or similar field
Expert knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Microsoft Products and Mac Environment a must
Working knowledge of FileMaker Pro, Magazine Manager (or other CRM’s), InSite, FlippingBook Pro and CMS Programs
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, must have the ability to communicate effectively with multiple departments in a fast-paced environment
Quick decision making and problem-solving skills with an eye for detail
Interest and knowledge in the horse racing industry a plus
