Sept 4, 2020 - Online Live Equestrian Show
Successful Online Show Gives Much Needed Tips. Long time equestrian judge, Laura Kelland-May has decided to share her knowledge by hosting online reviews and insider tips for equestrians. Each week equestrians from all over the world submit photographs of their riding positions to be reviewed by Kelland-May and a guest host. “These riders would like to improve their riding position and get concrete exercises to help them improve,” says Kelland-May, host of the program. To see past episodes or to tune in live please visit Kelland-May’s YouTube channel 9:30 am Eastern. www.youtube.com/laurakellandmay

The format is unique because questions from the live audience are answered during the program. “We often have to think on our feet as we are live. This means there are no scripts and no “pre-canned” answers, and no idea what questions we will be asked,” comments Kelland-May.

In addition to providing an assessment of their riding position, the hosts present exercises that riders and trainers can use on and off the horse to improve their position. For example, one exercise was the specifics of how to set up trot rails and exercises to do over poles to help answer the age of question of, “How do I get my heels down?” Other exercises to help riders, such as: things to help riders keep their stirrups at the canter, improve their position over jumps and how to get on the correct lead are answered live with the aid of video examples and exercise diagrams.

Other information about horse shows and what the judge is looking for is also discussed. Watch this past episode where Kelland-May and guest host, USEF “R” judge Patricia Jellerson, discuss position reviews as well as what the judge is looking for in an Equitation Class.
