American Quarter Horses Continue to Excel in Dressage

Since 2010 American Quarter Horses have been able to earn AQHA points and incentive fund monies in dressage by participating in USDF shows that were recognized by the American Quarter Horse Association. Since its inception Lynn Palm, coached by Cyril Pittion-Rossillon, has been competing with several American Quarter Horses at such shows. To date, her 2016 partners, Larks Home Run, Larks Protégé and Regal Scout have been more than successful in the dressage arena.

Larks Home Run, owned by Dr Elizabeth Stauber-Johnson of Duluth, MN, soon to compete at Prix St Georges, has been mastering the required movements at Fourth Level including tempi changes and canter pirouettes. In an arena full of warmblood type horses, Larks Home Run has been holding his own earning 60 AQHA points, multiple weekend Championships and a median score of 64.306%.

Larks Home Run’s stable mates Larks Protégé owned by Ivy Loftice of Verona, KY, and Regal Scout owned by Noel Anderson of Wellington, FL, have been standouts at Training and First Levels. Both have won several Championships and Reserve Championships at their respective levels while competing with all breeds of horses.

Larks Protégé currently holds a 70.245% median score at Training Level and is in the top 20 Training Levels Horses of the Year. Having earned 53 AQHA points at Training, his debut at First Level has earned him nearly 20 AQHA points in only two USEF/USDF shows. Regal Scout, a new partner for Palm, has returned to the dressage arena after successfully competing as a hunter in derbies on the east coast. Like Protégé, in two competitions Regal Scout’s commendable percentage scores translated into 15 AQHA points and two Reserve Championships at First Level.

Palm’s goal for the remainder of 2016 is to complete requirements for the Adequan/USDF All Breed Awards for the American Quarter Horse Association with each of the three horses. They all represent the best traits in the Quarter Horses, exemplifying athleticism, trainability and willing attitudes that show as happy horses to judges and spectators alike.
