Located on Ithaca Farm in Germantown, Maryland, Lost and Found Donkey Rescue Foundation, Inc. is a registered Maryland charitable organization dedicated to rescuing equines and other animals from neglect, abuse, and slaughter. Through the program these animals are cared for, rehabilitated, retrained, and placed in new homes.

Founded by Mary and Robert Truland in 1999 and directed by Ashley Young, at any given time the rescue is home to between 9-20 donkeys, 2-5 horses, 10 goats, 1 sheep, 2 cows and 1-2 mules.

Mr. and Mrs. Truland have generously donated part of their beautiful property for Lost and Found to operate on, and because the farm is also their home, visits are by appointment only.

We are now accepting applications for volunteers age 18 and older with equine care experience, including working with equines outside of a lesson program. Advanced riding skills will be required to ride our horses. Availability to handle donkeys and other cleaning tasks are always helpful as well but please understand most of our creatures are ‘feral’.

Visits are by appointment only, so please contact us to set a time to come see our animals!
